PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Reliever Vic Black was sent for an MRI on Friday because of a shoulder issue. General manager Sandy Alderson said team officials are confident the issue is just tendinitis.
Black was on the disabled list from Aug. 24 to Sept. 8 of last season because of a herniated disk in his neck. Alderson said this issue is unrelated. Still, the club decided to have Black undergo an MRI in Florida to confirm that belief.
"According to the doctors, the neck is not involved," Alderson said. "It's just tendinitis. The MRI is precautionary."
The Mets already have lost reliever Josh Edgin to a season-opening DL stint, even if Edgin decides to pursue the conservative rehab path for the stretched ligament in his right elbow rather than undergo Tommy John surgery.
