A-Rod: We can't be too HR dependent

Can the Yankees be too reliant on the home run? Alex Rodriguez says yes. On a night his sixth-inning solo shot was one of four long balls hit by the Yankees, A-Rod said that a team can be too home run heavy in how it scores runs.

"I think so," Rodriguez said. "It is important for us to think small ball and hit behind runners and also score with base hits, doubles, sacrifices, there are many ways to score -- and, later on when it counts the most, it is hard to score only by home runs."

This season, the Yankees have scored 52.2 percent of their runs on home runs (118 of 226 runs).

There are worse problems to have for a baseball team, then hitting too many home runs. But A-Rod is right, when October comes and a team is facing top pitching it is important to have a diverse offense.
