Look for Cashman contract next week

Yankees GM Brian Cashman's new contract could be finalized as soon as next week. Everything is still going smoothly for Cashman to remain with the team, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the situation.

The New York Post tweeted that Cashman will meet with Hal Steinbrenner next week. It is expected that Cashman's visit with Steinbrenner will be the final hurdle for his new deal to become official. Cashman's current contract reportedly pays him a little more than $2 million per season

Cashman has already started preparing as if he is remaining with the franchise. His first order of business will be figuring what to offer CC Sabathia to persuade the big lefty not to opt-out of the final four years of his current seven-year contract for $161 million.

If the Yankees and Sabathia don't reach an agreement, Sabathia has the right to opt-out of his contract three days after the Wold Series ends. But first, Cashman must ink his new deal. It appears that is right around the corner.
