Don't go popping any champagne corks just yet over the prospect of the New York Yankees adding Masahiro Tanaka to their rotation this week.
According to the best kind of source -- the kind "with knowledge" -- there has been no meaningful contact between the Yankees and Casey Close, Tanaka's agent, and there probably won't be until next week. That is because Close is said to be on vacation with his family and will not be open for business again until Monday.
Yes, I know, everyone has a cell phone and no one is ever totally out of contact these days, so anything could happen. But as far as the Yankees are concerned, the pursuit of Tanaka is likely on hold for one more week. So sit tight, enjoy a safe and happy New Year celebration, and don't expect much until the first week of January.
