Chris Capuano likely out for Opening Day

TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees potential fifth starter Chris Capuano was forced to leave Wednesday's game in the first inning with a strained right quad.

The Yankees said it is a Grade 2 strain. They offered no immediate timetable, but it is very likely Capuano will be out for Opening Day.

Capuano hurt himself after catching Garrett Jones' flip to first to beat the Red Sox's Brock Holt to the bag. Capuano came off first hopping on his left foot. He was then removed from the game.

Capuano is the favorite to be the Yankees' fifth starter behind Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda, CC Sabathia and Nathan Eovaldi. Adam Warren, Bryan Mitchell, Chase Whitley and Esmil Rogers are being prepared as starters, as well, but could end up in either the bullpen or Triple-A. Ivan Nova, out after Tommy John surgery, is expected back in June.
