Steppin' to the A.M.

Here are your highlights from the morning practice and what Tom Coughlin was able to get accomplished despite his ever-expanding army of walking wounded.

During one light walk-through alignment, the Giants practiced having DE Justin Tuck, DE Jason Pierre-Paul, DE Mathias Kiwanuka, DE Osi Umenyiora and DE Dave Tollefson on the field.

Tollefson and Umenyiora, who only did this portion of practice before he fully participates in the afternoon session, actually stood up behind the front line like linebackers.

The “NASCAR” alignment of four defensive ends up front in passing situations got work today too. Eli Manning would have been sacked on one snap but he did hit WR Ramses Barden deep on another play against “NASCAR.”

Tollefson had a strong practice with Umenyiora watching. Tollefson, often forgotten behind a deep rotation, had a potential sack and had excellent containment on an end-around on the edge.

He has had a strong camp and he has been an asset for the defense, showing his versatility by being in the linebacker meeting rooms with Kiwanuka as the team tries to utilize their players in different situations.

Tollefson did a lot of standing up and rushing from the back today.

RB Watch ‘10

Brandon Jacobs got the first carry in the 11-on-11 drills. Ahmad Bradshaw got the next carry.

Pierre-Paul had a good practice. He easily discarded TE Bear Pascoe and stuffed a running play and broke through a double-team by T Jacob Bender and RB Andre Brown.

And by the way, not that anybody should care, but JPP is sporting gold teeth (South Florida, represent) which scores bonus points in my book!

WR Victor Cruz has impressed fans here at camp and he had his strongest practice today. Cruz had a sweet one-handed catch in the left corner of the end zone. While he was ruled out of bounds, Cruz’s catch still drew a huge applause from fans.

WR Nyan Boateng also caught a deep pass Rhett Bomar. With receivers like Hakeem Nicks, Sinorice Moss and Steve Smith nursing injuries, other receivers have had chances to show what they can do.
