Murph is Aguilas player of week

Daniel Murphy quickly has endeared himself to Aguilas observers in the Dominican Republic.

Murphy narrowly was named the winter-league team's first player of the week for this season, Ariel Mancebo notes. You can read the team-produced Spanish-language article here.

Aguilas only has played three games so far, and Murphy has started all three at second base. After going 0-for-8 in the first two games, he had three doubles and an intentional walk Sunday.

The voting was tight. Murphy edged third baseman Hector Luna, 11-10, in a vote of winter-league journalists.

T.J. Pena was Aguilas' pitcher of the week.
