Taylor Tankersley

Relief Pitcher
Florida Marlins

The Mets signed left-handed reliever Taylor Tankersley to a minor league deal, ESPNNewYork.com has confirmed.

Tankersley, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Florida Marlins. He had a 7.50 ERA in 27 relief appearances for that club last season. He also went 4-2 with a 3.42 ERA and one save in 27 relief appearances with Triple-A New Orleans. At the major league level, left-handed batters hit .200 with three walks and one hit batter against Tankersley last season in 35 plate appearances.

The Mets lost their two primary left-handed relievers from the 2010 season: Pedro Feliciano to the Yankees and Hisanori Takahashi to the Angels, both on two-year, $8 million deals.

Tankersley missed the 2009 season following surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left elbow.

MLB Trade Rumors reported the imminent signing Tuesday evening, confirming a post from blogger Dave Gershman.
