Rod Barajas was wearing a brace on his right wrist in the Mets clubhouse this afternoon, and is out of the lineup tonight against the Phillies.
Barajas bruised the wrist trying to block a pitch in Wednesday night's game, but X-rays were negative, and Barajas is hoping to be in the lineup on Friday night in Milwaukee.
"It's just a bruise in a bad spot," Barajas said. "I think I'll be fine by [Friday]."
Barajas said he thinks he'll be available to pinch-hit if needed on Thursday night vs. the Phillies. Manager Jerry Manuel said that would depend on how Barajas feels later after treatment, and whether he's able to take any practice swings beforehand.
Henry Blanco will catch Mike Pelfrey on Thursday night. Manuel said that had been the plan all along.
"I had really planned to give [Barajas] the day off anyway," Manuel said.
