New York Mets
Ryota Igarashi returned to the Mets in the sixth inning Thursday, after receiving word at 9:30 a.m. in Scanton, Pa., that he might be needed to be re-promoted to the major league roster to take Francisco Rodriguez's place. Igarashi had a $300 taxi bill, and said his driver had never been to New York City before.
Igarashi, who is in the first season of a two-year, $3 million deal, had a 7.91 ERA in 22 relief appearances for the Mets before a July 9 demotion to Triple-A Buffalo. He said through his interpreter that he has worked on a curveball while in the minors.
