Report: Teixeira stays home with wife

First baseman Mark Teixeira did not accompany the Yankees on their flight to Arlington, Tex., following Monday afternoon's loss to the Boston Red Sox. He was given permission by the Yankees to stay home with his wife, who is pregnant, and whose due date is Tuesday.

The news was first reported by the Star-Ledger.

It is unclear how many games Teixeira will miss, if any. The Yankees play the Texas Rangers on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by four games in Kansas City against the Royals.

After a very slow start this season, Teixeira has been heating up of late. He has homered in five of the Yankees' past eight games, including a solo shot that provided the Yankees' only run in Monday's 2-1 defeat.
