Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he still isn’t sure when Robert Griffin III will return to full-team drills. He said Griffin would start taking work with the first team offense in walk-throughs. But Griffin told the Washington NBC affiliate during Washington's 22-21 preseason opening win at Tennessee that there’s “no doubt” he’s on schedule to start the season opener.
Griffin has yet to participate in 11-on-11 drills in training camp. He’s been limited to 7-on-7 work and numerous drills designed to test his mobility in the pocket.
“I’m pretty confident it will all work out,” he told NBC-4 in Washington.
Griffin was in uniform during the game and worked out before the game, performing many of the same drills he’s been doing in practice.
“I want to make sure I stay in shape and am ready to play when my number is called come Week 1,” Griffin said.
Griffin will next meet the media Monday. He made it clear earlier this week that he wants to participate in full-team work and it will be interesting to gauge his frustration level if that doesn't happen. Shanahan has made it clear he will go at his pace and no one else's, wanting to make sure Griffin does not rush back.
