As a service to all of our resident blocks (blogger-jocks), we brought you the bench press regimen of Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh this offseason. Up next: Chicago Bears tailback Matt Forte's work running hills.
Forte spoke with ESPN The Magazine's Alyssa Roenigk about his thrice-weekly schedule. Here's how it goes:
10 sprints of 80 yards up the front side of the hill
Return to the bottom with lunges
10 sprints of 40 yards on the steeper back side, wearing a 15-pound vest.
Forte credits the regimen for his renewed acceleration last season, during which he averaged a career-high 4.5 yards per carry. I think a career-low 237 carries also had something to do with it, but there is no doubt Forte ran away from defenders more frequently than he did in 2009.
Now excuse me while I try mirroring Forte's hill workout. Without the hill. And the running. And the vest.
