Green Bay Packers players and coaches will receive their championship rings Thursday night in a Lambeau Field ceremony to honor their victory in Super Bowl XLV.
The Packers' true honor went public Wednesday: They have been named the best franchise in sports by ESPN The Magazine. The issue will hit newsstands Friday.
Our friends at The Magazine ranked 122 pro sports franchises based on eight categories that included:
Bang for the buck
Title track (championships won, or expected to be won, during the lifetime of current fans)
More than 70,000 fans were polled as part of the rankings. The Packers finished first in "stadium experience" and were tied for "title track." They ranked No. 4 in "bang for the buck" and No. 5 in "coaching" and "ownership."
A hearty congratulations for all involved.
And, oh, have a good time at your little ring ceremony, too.
