Green Bay Packers schedule analysis

Breakdown: The Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl two years ago and were 15-1 last season, but believe it or not, 2012 will mark the first year they have had five prime-time games in one regular season.

They'll host the Chicago Bears (Thursday night) and play at the Seattle Seahawks (Monday night) in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively. They'll play at the Houston Texans (Sunday night) in Week 6 and at the New York Giants (Sunday night) in Week 12, and host the Detroit Lions (Sunday night) in Week 14.

The Packers also are scheduled for the late Sunday national time slot (4:15 p.m. ET) in Weeks 1 and 4, and their first 1 p.m. ET kickoff isn't scheduled until the second month of the season.

Complaint department: From an outside perspective, the Packers' schedule looks pretty boring in the middle. After hosting the New Orleans Saints in Week 4 -- look out, Aaron Rodgers -- the Packers will play five consecutive games against the Indianapolis Colts, Texans, St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars and Arizona Cardinals. Yuck. But the payoff is having five NFC North games among their final seven, including both against the Lions.

For openers: The Packers play their first two games in five days to open the season. Both are at Lambeau Field, but that's an interesting early grind that probably will influence their training camp schedule and preseason playing time. After opening Sept. 9 against the San Francisco 49ers, they'll host the Bears on the NFL Network's "Thursday Night Football" on Sept. 13. Another way to look at it: The Packers will have six home games between Sept. 14 and Dec. 30.
