The actual game is only part of the joke that is the Pro Bowl. The voting process is far from ideal, as evidenced by the NFC North representation in the final fan balloting released Thursday.
Fan voting weighs one-third of the total determination of the AFC and NFC teams. There are 14 NFC North players who received either the most or second-most votes at his position in the NFC. As you will see, we can probably agree there are some glaring inclusions and exclusions.
Below is the breakdown by team. Remember, coaches and players will also vote, and the actual teams will be determined next Wednesday.
Receiver Calvin Johnson
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
Fullback John Kuhn
Center Jeff Saturday
Kick returner Randall Cobb
Linebacker Clay Matthews
Safety Charles Woodson
It's probably not fair to include Woodson, who has missed half of the Packers' 14 games because of injury. Hester has no touchdown returns and doesn't have a return longer than 44 yards this season. Meanwhile, names like place-kicker Blair Walsh of the Minnesota Vikings and defensive tackle Nick Fairley of the Detroit Lions aren't even among the top five vote-getters at their respective positions.
We could go on, but this is only one-third of the vote. We'll see how much, if anything, gets rectified by players and coaches before next week.
