A weekly examination of the Packers' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 5 | Last Week: 9 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The Packers’ 31-13 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, which put them in first place in the NFC North for the first time this season, wasn’t enough to convince the voters to bump them up in the rankings.
Or maybe the fact that the Packers keep losing key playmakers to injuries gave the panelists reason to pause. As if losing receiver Randall Cobb the week before wasn’t enough, the Packers now look like they will be without tight end Jermichael Finley after the scary-looking neck injury he sustained against the Browns.
Regardless, the Packers have a chance to create some separation from the other NFC North contenders with four division games over the next six weeks, including back-to-back games coming up against the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. The Packers’ next six opponents have an average Power Ranking of 22. The six teams the Packers already have played have an average power ranking of 13.8. This might be the time for them to make their move.
As always, you can rank all 32 teams yourself.
