As expected, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook oddsmakers' expectations are low.
Vegas set the over/under for Chicago's season win total at 6.5, and gives the Bears 80-1 odds to win Super Bowl 50, as of Sept. 7.
Are the Bears about to suffer through another brutal season?
Well, maybe so, but ESPN Chalk's NFL Vegas Expert Dave Tuley takes a more optimistic viewpoint.
"A lot of people are considering the Bears one of the worst teams in the league," Tuley writes. "However, I don't think they'll be quite that bad.
"The defense (ranked 30th in yards allowed) has some new blood mixed with veterans such as Jared Allen, Lamarr Houston and Antrel Rolle, and should be better. And you know Jay Cutler and Matt Forte will put up big numbers on occasion.
This definitely makes the Bears an "over" team and they could be live underdogs (heck, I was hoping they'd be more than touchdown underdogs in the home opener against Green Bay, and it was headed that way before Jordy Nelson's season-ending injury)."
Fellow ESPN Chalk's NFL Vegas Expert betting expert Erin Rynning adds that he leans toward taking the over in coach John Fox's first year running the Bears.
"The offseason overhaul was a step in the right direction and it should result in an uptick in performance across the board. It's enough that I have this squad pegged for 7 wins," Rynning wrote.
