METAIRIE, La. –- Just got settled into a hotel near the New Orleans Saints practice facility and wanted to catch you up on some events.
As I previously reported from an airport runway in another NFC South city, Atlanta’s top pick, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, has agreed to contract terms.
Also, the Buccaneers announced they’ve signed seventh-round draft pick Cody Grimm, which probably bolts them right to the top of the list of Super Bowl favorites.
At the moment, New Orleans’ Patrick Robinson and Tampa Bay’s Gerald McCoy remain the only two unsigned rookies in the NFC South. Stay tuned. That could change at any moment.
A lot of New Orleans fans haven’t been happy when I’ve suggested Malcolm Jenkins might replace popular veteran Darren Sharper as the starter at free safety. There’s a reason I’ve been saying that. I’m not so sure Sharper’s knee is healthy and we got some evidence of that Thursday when general manager Mickey Loomis said Sharper will be on the physically-unable-to-perform list when the Saints open camp Friday morning.
