It’s the first weekend in months without football in the NFC South and things are pretty quiet. Let’s take a look at the few headlines around the division.

Jimmy Clausen has sent out word that he’s excited to work with new Carolina quarterbacks coach Mike Shula.

Atlanta tight end Tony Gonzalez sounded like he wanted to play another season after last week’s playoff loss, but he said he would take a little time to ponder his future. Apparently, time is up and Gonzalez definitely is planning to return.

The Bucs reportedly are interested in Pat Morris as a potential replacement for Pete Mangurian, who was fired Friday. Morris has a history with offensive coordinator Greg Olson.

Back in 2006, NFL teams hired a record-high 10 new head coaches. Jeff Duncan points out the only two of those coaches remaining in place are New Orleans’ Sean Payton and Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy. Interestingly enough, Payton was a candidate for the Green Bay job and McCarthy was a former offensive coordinator in New Orleans under Jim Haslett.
