As shown by Sunday’s victory against the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay’s young defense is improving.
But there’s still room for growth. One area where the Buccaneers have had a big problem is in allowing receivers to gain yards after the catch. Tampa Bay ranks No. 31 in the NFL with 877 yards coming after the catch, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Only Oakland (926) has allowed more yards.
The rest of the NFC South defenses also are struggling in this area. Atlanta is No. 29 with 854 yards allowed after the catch.
New Orleans is No. 28 with 837 yards. Carolina is No. 21 with 736 yards after the catch.
San Diego’s defense leads the league with just 385 yards allowed after the catch.
