Checking NFC South Total QBR

Atlanta’s Matt Ryan and New Orleans’ Drew Brees were two of the league’s top quarterbacks in Week 14, according to Total QBR.

Ryan was No. 4 in the league at 83.2 and Brees was No. 5 at 82.9. Both overcame slow starts to lead their teams to victories, and the scores above 80 are nothing new.

Since Week 9, Brees has reached the 80 mark in all five of his starts. Ryan has hit 80 or better in four of his past six games. Since the start of November, only Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers has more games (six) with a Total QR of 80 or above.

Fifty is considered an average Total QBR and the other two NFC South quarterbacks were below average Sunday. Carolina’s Cam Newton was No. 15 at 44.9 and Tampa Bay’s Josh Freeman (15.1) was No. 25.

For the season, Brees is second in the league with an 80.0 average. Ryan (64.9) is No. 7. Newton (55.8) is No. 15. Freeman is No. 21 with a 44.4 average.
