Morning Ram-blings: Rams youngest again

Rams coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead have repeatedly made it clear that they are unafraid to skew younger than most with their roster. They proved it again Saturday when they made their 20 cuts to get to the league-mandated 53-man roster.

For the second consecutive year, the Rams are poised to have the league's youngest roster, according to Philly.com. The average age of the current 53 comes in at 24.98 years. If most rookies come into the league around 22 years old, the average player on the Rams is only about three years older. The Lions are the league's oldest team at 27.15 years.

That the Rams again put together one of the youngest rosters in the league is no surprise and continues to reinforce a build through the draft philosophy around Rams Park. The Rams are carrying all seven members of this year's draft class on the 53-man roster and five undrafted free agents made the club as well. At every position except the offensive line, tight end and quarterback, the Rams will start at least one player who is either a rookie or entering his second season.

We ran through a gamut of topics right here in this space throughout the day Saturday. First was a wrap up of the Rams in the #NFLRank project, followed by a look at how Sam Bradford's preseason went ... and then an instant breakdown of the Rams' roster moves ... and last but not least, a breakdown of my performance in my final roster predictions.

Want more #NFLRank? NFC West blogger/NFL Insider/tour de force Mike Sando provided a complete accounting of how the teams in the division fared in the project. Hint: Seattle and San Francisco were prominent.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch delved into the improvement the Rams made in the running game in the preseason finale. While adding the caveat that the running game did well for the Rams backups against Baltimore's backups, it was a better performance than the other three preseason games. Of more interest is that it was undrafted rookie Benny Cunningham who looked the best. Cunningham made the initial 53 on Saturday and he could get a closer look as the regular season approaches.
