Thoughts on Incognito's release

Right guard Richie Incognito put the Rams in a difficult position with his latest on-field transgressions.

IncognitoThe team lacked the depth to comfortably release a starting lineman. But with two more personal fouls, including a head butt, the team couldn't reasonably keep him around, either. I thought a team-imposed suspension might make sense in this case, but the Rams reached their breaking point. They released Incognito on Tuesday.

"As with all other personnel moves, this is what we felt was in the best interest of the team at this time," coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a statement released by the team. "We appreciate Richie’s efforts and we wish him the very best."

I wonder if the 49ers would be wise to consider adding Incognito, if not now, then possibly in the offseason. Coach Mike Singletary might be strong enough to keep Incognito in line.

Crossing the line

Richie Incognito's two personal-foul penalties Sunday were his 10th and 11th since he made his regular-season debut in 2006. Incognito has committed eight of the 11 during road games and nine of the 11 against division opponents.
