Jim Harbaugh: 'My destiny is with these men'

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Observed and heard in the locker room after the San Francisco 49ers' 22-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs at Levi’s Stadium:

  • Coach Jim Harbaugh, usually one to fall back on a previously used answer or deflect a query entirely if he does not find it to his liking, entertained a question about the latest reports that have him leaving San Francisco at the end of the season due to player unrest. “It's my job to love them,” he said. “It’s their job to love each other ... the better you do, the more people try to trip you up.” And he added the following: “My destiny lies between these walls with these men.”

  • With the 49ers having moved some 35 miles south of oft-cold Candlestick Park, the weather at their new digs is also an issue, as it was Sunday, when it was 90 degrees in land-locked Santa Clara. “It was hot out there,” said right guard Alex Boone, pausing for effect. “It’s not Candlestick.”

  • Quarterback Colin Kaepernick continued to wear Beats by Dre headphones to his postgame presser, these pink, presumably for Breast Cancer Awareness. The NFL recently signed an exclusive contract with Bose. Might he be facing a fine?
