Thoughts on Cardinals' date with Gabbert

Sending an owner, team president, general manager, head coach and player personnel director onto the road for a private meeting with a top quarterback prospect sounds like overkill.

There were extenuating circumstances for the Arizona Cardinals' visit with Missouri's Blaine Gabbert.

Owner Bill Bidwill, president Michael Bidwill, GM Rod Graves and head coach Ken Whisenhunt were already together in New Orleans for the NFL owners meeting. Michael Bidwill regularly pilots a private jet to deliver team personnel to various outposts.

Missouri, located two states north of Louisiana, site of the owners meeting, made for a convenient stop as the Cardinals returned to Arizona. I expect the Cardinals to like what they see from Gabbert, but it's unclear whether or not they would like him enough to use the fifth overall choice for him.

Keim has said the team would have a hard time using such a high choice on all but the very best quarterback prospects. The Cardinals need a quarterback, obviously, and they'll presumably investigate all the top ones.

"The quarterback position is the No. 1 thing we have to address," Whisenhunt said from the owners meeting Monday.
