The Rams made significant progress from Week 1 to Week 2, an important step following a mistake-filled opener at Seattle.
Players have bought into first-year coach Steve Spagnuolo, but it's important to see results as soon as possible. This game provides those results even though the Redskins prevailed.
Penalties were down. Steven Jackson enjoyed success on the ground in a breakout 58-yard run. Marc Bulger was reasonably efficient. And the defense did its part.
It's clear, though, that the Rams need much more from receiver Donnie Avery. Their passing game lacks playmaking ability on the outside. As a result, Jackson will have a harder time gaining yards on the ground with consistency.
The Rams' lack of firepower at receiver will probably remain a problem all season. That's why it's important for Avery to make more of an impact.
