The Cleveland Browns coaching search is getting interesting. As the team waits on Adam Gase and the Denver Broncos, it made plans to interview Dallas Cowboys specials teams coach Rich Bisaccia on Saturday.

A few years ago, it would have been unheard of to hire a special teams coach as a head coach.

But Baltimore and John Harbaugh changed all that. The Ravens brought Harbaugh from the Eagles after Jason Garrett turned the Ravens down to stay as Dallas' offensive coordinator (and eventually became its head coach).

Harbaugh has had great success as a coach, including winning last season's Super Bowl.

That may translate well to Bisaccia, 53, a high-energy guy who has made special teams better wherever he's worked. He was going to work for Gus Malzahn at Auburn last season, but lasted a month before Jerry Jones brought him to Dallas.

Bisaccia also has been assistant head coach for both Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay and Norv Turner in San Diego.

By interviewing Mike Pettine, Buffalo's defensive coordinator, and now Bisaccia the Browns have moved away from the more traditional choices.

Which seems like a step forward compared to where the search was at two days ago when Jimmy Haslam felt compelled to release a letter asking to take a deep breath and relax.
