Chargers place Keenan Allen, Branden Oliver on injured reserve

SAN DIEGO -- As expected, the San Diego Chargers announced that the team placed Keenan Allen on the injured reserve list, ending his 2015 season.

But a couple of other players were surprise additions to the list -- running back Branden Oliver and outside linebacker Tourek Williams.

Oliver suffered a turf toe injury against the Baltimore Ravens and hoped to get back on the field. However, the Chargers apparently needed the roster spot, placing him on the injured reserve list.

Oliver ends his second NFL season with 31 carries for 108 yards (3.5 yards per carry) and 13 catches for 112 yards. He also returned eight kickoffs for 197 yards (24.6 yards per return).

Williams practiced for the first time since suffering a broken foot in the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys in August. But Williams will not get a chance to play this season, with the Chargers placing him on the reserve list.

With the open roster spots, the Chargers promoted cornerback Greg Ducre and receiver Javontee Herndon from the practice squad to the active roster. The Chargers also brought back center J.D. Walton.
