Panthers' success inspires Premier League's Leicester City F.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – What the Carolina Panthers accomplished this season apparently touched a soccer team in the United Kingdom.

The Leicester City Football Club soccer team sent the Panthers four of their blue jerseys with the numbers and names of Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, middle linebacker Luke Kuechly, cornerback Josh Norman and kicker Graham Gano on the back.

Norman wore his in the locker room on Thursday.

“It’s kind of crazy," Norman said. “They just wanted to show support and I’m showing support by wearing it for them. It’s pretty cool we’ve got support over there in England."

Leicester is in second place behind Arsenal in the Barclay’s Premier League. The Panthers are an NFL-best 15-1 heading into Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game against Seattle.

Norman said the explanation that came with the jersey is Leicester was a lot like Carolina in that nobody expected the team to do much this season.

“They were like they were just like us," Norman said. “Nobody was giving them clout or anything. They had to come up and get everything they’ve got. Pretty much earn everything. Now they’re No. 1."
