Name of Cam Newton's second child was, ahem, chosen carefully

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was a subtle reveal, at least in terms of how Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton normally does things.

The 2015 NFL MVP on Sunday posted a picture of himself with his three-month-old daughter that he referred to by name in public for the first time.

Drum roll.

Newton’s second child is named Sovereign-Dior Cambella Newton.

The picture, assuming it was taken live, also shows Newton isn’t having trouble holding his new daughter after having arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair a partially torn rotator cuff on his right shoulder.

The name won’t get quite the attention of Newton’s first child, Chosen Sebastian. That name was revealed the day the first pick of the 2011 draft showed up at practice wearing a blue Under Armor shirt with "Chosen" written in white letters above the quarterback’s familiar No. 1.

Asked why he picked the name Chosen, who was born on Christmas Eve, Newton gave an intriguing answer.

"Every person that I’ve had this conversation with I say, 'I didn’t want him to have the pressure of being the Junior,'" Newton said at the time. "Then they replied with, 'What the hell do you think Chosen is going to bring?'

"It’s something that I think he grows up and appreciates rather than ... have a couple of names in his class of the same name as him when they’re doing morning roll call and they say his name."

Stay tuned for why Newton picked his daughter’s name.
