The National Fantasy Football Convention will serve as the unofficial kickoff to football season for the second straight year in Dallas.
The convention will take place July 13-15 and have more than 200 current and former players on hand, including Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy and Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt.
While there will be roughly 75 current or former Cowboys, including Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin and Jason Witten, each NFL team will have at least two players in attendance.
“I think the players are excited,” NFFC executive director Andy Alberth said. “Players like to talk to other players and, from word of mouth or reaching out to a ton of guys, they want to be a part of it. This is something fun for them to build their brand. These guys grew up fans of players and now they’re in position to give back to fans. It’s such a small window they have for opportunities like this off the field, so we’re excited to help them.”
ESPN’s Matthew Berry will serve as host of the event, where fantasy football enthusiasts can meet actual players and gather the best ways to put together rosters and have successful seasons in 2018. In addition to the fantasy tips, there will be a Taste of Texas showcase, a car show and other expos, from health and fitness to financial wellness.
Alberth said the expectation is to have anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 fans in attendance. Alberth said the hope is to have more than 500 players involved in the future.
“This is only the beginning,” Alberth said. “Last year we had people travel from Canada, London and Mexico and we’ve had people with us from when we first announced the concept. We think the level of growth is enormous for years to come.”
