DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland met briefly with the media to discuss their hottest topic on the first day of training camp: Ryan Tannehill's holdout. Miami was without its first-round pick and projected franchise quarterback on Friday.
"He's obviously not here, so we're obviously not done yet," Ireland said. "I think progress is being made. It’s progressing, communication is ongoing on both sides. ...We will not discuss the details of the negotiations in public."
Ireland said he didn't foresee this, but "things happen." Tannehill, the No. 8 overall pick, was expected to compete with veterans Matt Moore and David Garrard for the starting job. But each day Tannehill misses reduces his chances.
Tannehill is the only draft pick yet to sign in the AFC East.
