Blank: Falcons ready for 'second season'

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank is a realist.

In this interview with 790 The Zone in Atlanta, Blank sounded very happy about Sunday’s victory against the New York Giants. But, like everyone else in the organization, he said the real test will come in the postseason.

“We’ve done a lot of good things,’’ Blank said. “But we have to play well in the second season, if you will. Everybody understands that.’’

Virtually everyone knows the Falcons have not won a playoff game since the arrival of coach Mike Smith and quarterback Matt Ryan in 2008. But Blank said the win against the Giants, the team that bounced the Falcons from the playoffs last year, could give Atlanta confidence and momentum for the postseason.

“To have that kind of win against a very good football team, coming off some performances that were not our best the last four or five games, I think really means a lot to our coaches and players,’’ Blank said. “And it builds confidence going into these last two games of the year and heading, obviously, toward the playoffs. So that was very meaningful.’’
