Alex Ovechkin excited for Caps' additions

Alex Ovechkin has been enjoying his offseason while the Capitals were making some big moves, but Washington’s captain says he will soon get back to work.

After taking trips to Turkey and France and not watching the Stanley Cup finals "at all," Ovechkin said he will start training this week.

"Don't worry; I'm going to be in good shape and I'll be ready for the year because this is a very important year for the Caps and for me, too," Ovechkin said in an interview with Caps365.

He was shocked by all the moves the Capitals made during the offseason but said it is a business and the organization is focused on winning.

It was especially tough for him to lose his friend Semyon Varlamov, who was traded to the Colorado Avalanche, but he reiterated that it is about business.

Making up for that loss is the addition of Tomas Vokoun.

How did the Capitals star find out about the signing?

His friend read it on the Internet while they were at dinner in Moscow, so Ovechkin texted a friend in D.C. to get confirmation.

Ovechkin also is excited that Olie Kolzig is returning to the organization as an associate goaltender coach.

"Everybody knows he is a great guy," Ovechkin said of Kolzig. "I was a lucky guy to play with him when he was here. He is just unbelievable. He's a leader."
