Rumblings: Injuries change Ducks' plans for trade deadline

Injuries to top-four blueliner Sami Vatanen and top-nine forward Matt Beleskey likely have changed what the Anaheim Ducks will try to do before the March 2 trade deadline.

The Ducks were already looking at the blue-line market, but now, with a minute-eating defenseman like Vatanen (third on team at 21:40 minutes per game) and a scorer like Beleskey (21 goals) gone for a while, I’m guessing Ducks general manager Bob Murray will look more aggressively to add a piece both on the back end and up front.

The Ducks announced Tuesday that Vatanen would be out four-to-six weeks and Beleskey is out two-to-four weeks.

But I would venture to say that an addition on defense is the top priority. The team hasn’t played well defensively of late and that’s a concern.
