Rumblings: Vermette could be good fit to fill Kane void for Blackhawks

It's all very fresh in the wake of Patrick Kane's injury, but it goes without saying that the Chicago Blackhawks' front office was sifting through its trade options Wednesday.

The Blackhawks have lots of time before Monday's deadline, but it's clear from what we're already hearing that they hope to make a trade or two. Arizona Coyotes center Antoine Vermette, the class of the rental forward market this season, is among the players who interest the Blackhawks, according to a source.

The Blackhawks are not alone. The Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers, and no doubt a few other buyers, also have interest in Vermette, who won't go for cheap. And the Blackhawks have a list of other forwards who interest them beyond Vermette.

But to me, he would be a great fit for Chicago, a 200-foot player who can play wing and center while helping both the power play and penalty kill; he is easily the stud among the rental forwards available.

If I'm the Blackhawks, I look hard at him.
