Rumblings: Preds, Fisher hammering out new deal

It is mildly surprising that by now there still hasn’t been a contract extension completed between pending UFA center Mike Fisher and the Nashville Predators.

"We’ve talked, and we talked as recently as Monday of this week, and we continue to have a very healthy dialogue," Fisher’s agent, Todd Reynolds, told ESPN.com on Thursday. "It’s clear that it’s everyone’s goal is for Fish to stay there. It’s just that we have a little differing opinion on where the market is on him. And that’s nothing new in our business."

My sense is both sides are in agreement on term -- a two-year deal makes sense for the 35-year-old -- but just how much money should be doled out remains an issue.

In the meantime, it’s worth noting that teams can talk to other teams' free agents as of June 25 (next Thursday).
