From what I hear, the plan is for both sides to circle back to each other in a month or two with regard to the pending unrestricted free agent. That gives both management and the center time to evaluate where the club is headed.
If Carolina gets off to a decent start in the opening two months, does that means the Hurricanes feel more comfortable with the current group and attempt to re-sign Staal? Or if the team stinks out the joint, is it time for the full rebuild?
In the meantime, Staal can use the next month or two to also analyze the team’s performance and where he feels his future should lie.
