NHL expansion to Las Vegas is dragging on longer than Nevada hockey fans might have hoped but plans are in place to give the city a taste of the NHL in its new arena next season.

According to an NHL source, the Los Angeles Kings will continue their tradition of playing a preseason game in Vegas next season, this time in the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the Dallas Stars are in conversations to be the Kings' opponent in Vegas.

"We are talking to them and we would be honored to be involved but nothing is confirmed at this time," Stars president Jim Lites told the Morning News.

The Kings game would be one of two preseason games at T-Mobile Arena with the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche expected to play in the second game, according to the source.

It’s not quite the Las Vegas Black Knights, but it’s a start.
