The latest Oakland Raiders weekend mail call:
Manny from Fresno wants to know if I think the Raiders’ defensive woes are behind them.
Bill Williamson: Their performance against New England was certainly an improvement. Oakland was better against the run and showed a strong pass rush. It started with improved play from veteran defensive linemen Justin Tuck and Antonio Smith. Still, injuries are mounting and Oakland will have to prove itself on defense week in and week out.
Jorge from Dallas wants to know what I think of Charles Woodson at this point in his career.
BW: Woodson, who turns 38 next month, has been one of the Raiders' best and most reliable defensive players. He has played every defensive snap. That is remarkable for a player of his age. When the Raiders brought him back in 2013, they were just hoping for some leadership and situational help on the field. But Woodson is giving him so much more. He is ending a Hall of Fame career on a high note. It’s really cool to witness.
John from San Jose wants to know if I think receiver Vincent Brown will get more playing time against Miami on Sunday.
BW: Yes, especially considering Rod Streater is out with a fractured foot. Brown played a few snaps at New England days after he signed. I’m not sure if we will see him all game against Miami, but he should get plenty of time. I expect to see an inspired Brown when he plays his former team, San Diego, Oct. 12 when the Raiders come out of the bye. He will be well-versed in the offense and ready to punish the team that cut him this summer.
