What did we learn this week?
Stanford is the nation's best one-loss team: LSU, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Michigan State, blaa, blaa, blaa. Stanford would whip your butt. That is all.
UCLA will have quarterback questions this spring: The Bruins have no identity on offense. What's the future? Can quarterback Kevin Prince stay healthy? Can quarterback Richard Brehaut win over his coaches? Is incoming freshman Brett Hundley -- a true dual-threat quarterback -- the answer? Forget this season: What's the next step?
California will have QB questions this spring: The Bears have no identity on offense. What's the future? Can quarterback Brock Mansion step up? Can quarterback Beau Sweeney win over his coaches? Or are any of the youngsters the answer? Forget this season: What's the next step?
I have no idea about Oregon State: The Beavers got whipped by Washington State at home last weekend. This weekend, they whipped USC. Go figure. Oregon State had lost three of four Pac-10 games, while the Trojans were surging. But the Beavers win 36-7 and make it look easy. Offensive line issues? Quarterback Ryan Katz losing his confidence? A soft defense? Gone. Like I typed: go figure.
Suddenly, intrigue for USC: See above. And now, with quarterback Matt Barkley probably out with a high ankle sprain, the Trojans' two big rivalry games -- Notre Dame and UCLA -- which seemed like easy wins a week ago, might be interesting. Will backup quarterback Mitch Mustain step up?
