Best of the unis: Tennessee's 'Smokey Grey' returns, Ducks being ducks

Maybe Oregon was tired of other schools stealing the uniform spotlight. Although the Ducks have predictably experimented a bit already this season and fused recruiting with uniform unveilings, this week's move put them back at the forefront of the uniform conversation.

Yes, Oregon is going to do its best to outfit its players to look like its mascot (details here) on Saturday against Colorado.

Tennessee will wear its "Smokey Grey" unis for the first time this season when the Vols try to break their losing streak against Florida with College GameDay in town.

Louisiana Lafayette's visit to Tulane (8 p.m. ET, ESPN3) won't affect the College Football Playoff conversation, but you might want to give the Green Wave's uniforms a look anyway. They'll pair blue alternates with the "Angry Wave" logo on the helmet.

Nebraska fans will finally get to see the Cornhuskers' chrome white look that was teased in August when they travel to Northwestern.

It appears the Wildcats got the memo, as they'll counter with an all-black combination.

Virginia Tech will roll out a new and improved orange helmet for the Hokies' "Orange Effect" game against East Carolina. They wore a version of the helmet last season, but this edition's logo is white instead of the color of the helmet.

In related helmet news, we'll see South Florida's matte white helmet for the first time this season when the Bulls try to upset Florida State (noon ET, ABC) in Tampa.

Mississippi State has new alternates (the most notable difference is the silver helmet) for its trip to UMass (3:30 p.m. ET, WatchESPN).
