Note: This an extended version of the interview that appeared in the April 29 edition of ESPN The Magazine.

Hailing from Chicago's South Side, Dwyane Wade attended Marquette University, where he logged only the fourth triple-double in NCAA tournament history. The Miami Heat selected Wade with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft. Now in his 10th season in Miami, the 31-year-old has been named an All-Star each season except his first, and has won two NBA titles. Heading into the final regular-season game, and the Heat already locked in as the No. 1 seed, Wade is averaging 21.2 ppg and a 23.86 PER. We chatted with him about life off the court.

What question are you asked most by fans?

Where is LeBron?

Who would you say is the most media-savvy athlete?

Peyton Manning. He does a great job. He says the right things all the time.

What do you like best about your job?

The places I've been and the people I have met along the way. I love basketball, but the relationships along the way are really special.

What is the biggest misconception about you?

My decision in 2010 to play with Chris [Bosh] and LeBron has taken a little away from me being perceived as an individual. That's a misconception.

What is your pregame meal?

Some sort of chicken pasta.

What is your favorite TV show right now?

What game show would you like to be a contestant on?

"Family Feud," even though I think I would be terrible.

What is your most irrational fear?

Birds. I’m petrified of birds. I got attacked by some once when I was in college.

What music is stuck in your head these days?

2 Chainz. I like his lyrics.

What was the best vacation you ever took?

Last summer I was able to take my family to London, and then we went to Switzerland. As a dad, to be able to do that was very cool.

What is your least favorite chore?

Besides all of them? I hate making the bed.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I’d be invincible.

When was the last time you spoke to someone from elementary school?

My best friend and I met in fourth grade, and now he lives in Miami. So very recently.

Do you ever get nervous?

Sure, if I’m going into uncharted waters and doing something for the first time. But I don’t get nervous for games.
