Yearbook, Sept. 23: Rheaume makes history

Sept. 23, 1992: Months after helping the Canadians win the gold medal at the IIHF women's world championship, goaltender Manon Rheaume found herself in a rather different forum: Expo Hall in Tampa, Fla., where she became the first woman to play in an NHL game. She stopped seven of nine shots.

It wasn't the only exhibition game Rheaume participated in, nor was it the biggest moment in her hockey career; she went on to claim another IIHF gold in 1994, then a silver medal with the Canadians at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.
