SAN DIEGO – The Chargers ruled out three players for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens who did not practice all week -- linebacker Manti Te'o (ankle), safety Eric Weddle (groin) and guard Orlando Franklin (knee).
Te’o, who missed the last two games with an ankle issue, remains second on the team in tackles with 40.
Te’o said his rehab is going well, but he wants to make sure he’s fully healthy before he returns to the field.
“My whole thing is need to come back when I know I can help the team,” Te’o said. “I’m not going to come back and put my team in a situation where I’m not able to do the things I’ve got to do to help the team win.
“I’ve made a lot of progress. I’m excited with the progress I’ve made so far, and hopefully I’ll be back soon.”
With Franklin unavailable, Chris Hairston likely will start at his third different position along the offensive line: left guard.
Outside linebacker Tourek Williams practiced all week for the first time since suffering a broken foot in August, but also has been ruled out for Sunday.
For a second straight week, tight end Antonio Gates did not practice. However, Gates has been listed as questionable for Sunday.
Chargers coach Mike McCoy said that even though Gates did not practice, he knows the offense well enough and could play if trainers give the veteran tight end the green light on Sunday.
Rookie linebacker Denzel Perryman did not practice all week because of a strained biceps and has been listed as doubtful. If Perryman can’t play,Kavell Conner likely will get his first start of the season at inside linebacker.
Also, defensive tackle Corey Liuget was fined $8,681 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness for kicking Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Donald Penn last week in retaliation for being knocked down after a play was over.
