Vernon Davis wants to be used more in 49ers' offense

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis has always been one to toe the company line, to put a positive spin on just about any situation presented to him.

But Wednesday, Davis acknowledged that he is frustrated with his lack of production and, well, participation in the San Francisco 49ers’ offense.

Consider: A year ago, Davis had 13 touchdown receptions. This year, he has only been targeted in the red zone once, in the season opener at Dallas. And yes, he scored a TD.

He wants to go back to being seen as a “playmaker” for the Niners.

“Not just as someone who’s blocking,” David said. “I enjoy it. I would love to be involved a little bit more. I would love that. That would be amazing. But like I said, it’s out of my control. All I can do is come here, show up and take care of my responsibilities.”
