DeForest Buckner signs rookie deal with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have signed nine of their 11 draft picks, including first-rounder DeForest Buckner.

Buckner, a defensive end from Oregon, was the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. The Niners are counting on him to help revive their pass rush. Buckner had 10.5 sacks with 83 tackles, including 17 for loss last season.

The Niners allowed 2,020 yards on the ground, their most since 1980, and 20 rushing touchdowns. They also managed only 13 sacks last season when sending four or fewer pass-rushers, which was tied for the second-fewest in the NFL.

The Niners also signed defensive lineman Ronald Blair, wide receiver Aaron Burbridge, offensive lineman Fahn Cooper, quarterback Jeff Driskel, cornerback Prince Charles Iworah, cornerback Rashard Robinson, running back Kelvin Taylor and offensive lineman John Theus.

The Niners cut kicker Corey Acosta, offensive lineman Jordan Devey, running back Kendall Gaskins and quarterback Dylan Thompson to make room on the roster.
