Whether Colin Kaepernick will earn the job as the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback is still up for debate.

One thing that is all but certain, however, is Kaepernick earning a $400,000 workout bonus. He will be awarded the money if he completes at least 90 percent of the offseason program, which wraps up with mandatory minicamp June 7-9.

Kaepernick had surgery on a torn labrum in his left shoulder in November. He had surgeries on his right thumb and left knee after the season ended.

Still, Kaepernick has taken part in every session of 49ers’ workout program since April 4. He has not been cleared for full participation but often lines up with the other quarterbacks to work on footwork. Kaepernick could be cleared medically for the start of training camp in late July.

Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert will compete for the 49ers’ starting job. The Niners open the season against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 12, the second game of a Monday Night Football doubleheader.
