49ers issue new numbers, Matt Barkley steps into Colin Kaepernick's No. 7

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers' busy offseason has seen them bring in a whopping 18 new players either via free-agent signing or trade. All of that work has kept most everyone busy, not least of which would include the equipment staff.

On Wednesday night, the Niners unveiled the numbers for some of their newest additions and some familiar numbers are going to some unfamiliar names. Perhaps most notably, the two jersey numbers worn by last year's starting quarterbacks will now be worn by the two new quarterbacks on the roster. Matt Barkley is taking over the No. 7 that Colin Kaepernick wore since his arrival in 2011 while projected starter Brian Hoyer is wearing the No. 2 that once belonged to Blaine Gabbert.

Among other notables, receiver Pierre Garcon will wear No. 15 and fullback Kyle Juszczyk will wear No. 44.
